I have been thinking about this recently. I help my father with his IT on weekly video calls, and traditionally we’ve used FaceTime on his iphone and on my apple laptop for the video call combined with Google Remote Desktop for screen sharing. This has worked quite well and we have become accustomed to the process and the interfaces. It’s super handy when I can ask my dad to let me control the mouse and keyboard for a while, with him watching.
But now I am seeking to self-host All The Things™. I would like to move us from FaceTime to Nextcloud Talk, which we can do just as easily on our phones. Our next call is tomorrow so I will propose making the switch then.
I think RustDesk could be a good candidate for replacing remote desktop but looking at the configuration options it might be too complicated.
